EMT Readiness Check

The NREMT EMT exam is computer-adaptive, and it is not organized the way your textbook is. The National Registry scores five content domains, and Primary Assessment alone is roughly two-fifths of the exam. Most practice banks still sort questions by airway, cardiology, trauma and medical, which is useful for studying and useless for telling you where the Registry will find you out.

This free check is 25 original questions drawn to the published 2025 test-plan weights, scored by domain the moment you finish, with the reasoning behind every question you missed. Nothing to sign up for.

Start the 25-question check

About 25 minutes. Ten questions on Primary Assessment, six on Treatment and Transport, four on Scene Size-Up, three on Operations, two on Secondary Assessment: the same proportions the Registry uses.

Take it cold. Studying first inflates the baseline and hides exactly the domain you're looking for.

What this actually measures

The five domains of the National Registry's EMT test plan, weighted the way the exam is:

Your result also shows the same answers grouped by content area (airway, cardiology, trauma, medical, operations), because that is how most textbooks are organized and how you'll probably study. The domain read is the one that matches the exam.

Frequently asked

Is this the real NREMT exam?
No. It's original practice material written to the five domains of the 2025 EMT test plan and reviewed by a working Firefighter/Paramedic. It is not actual exam content, and Tailboard Academy isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the National Registry.

Do I need an account to get my score?
No. Your score, per-domain breakdown, and the explanation for every miss appear immediately, no email, no card. An account is only for the full-length adaptive exams and tracking improvement over time.

How is the real exam weighted?
Scene Size-Up and Safety 15 to 19%, Primary Assessment 39 to 43%, Secondary Assessment 5 to 9%, Patient Treatment and Transport 20 to 24%, Operations 10 to 14%. This check draws its 25 questions to those weights.

What score do I need to pass?
The real exam is computer-adaptive and reports a scaled score from 100 to 1500, passing at 950. There is no percentage to hit, and since September 2023 the score report has no per-domain breakdown at all, which is why a diagnostic like this one is the only way to see your domains. We report each domain as Strong / Developing / Gap rather than predicting a pass, because two to ten questions can't support a number that precise.

Which domain should I study first?
Whichever scores lowest here, with one caveat: Primary Assessment is two-fifths of the exam, so Developing there costs more than a Gap in Secondary Assessment. Most candidates study the topic they find hardest rather than the one they actually miss. That's the whole reason to test before you plan.
